First Recipients of the Safety Champion Challenge Coin Program

Submitted by Bryan Durr, director of operations, ACRT Pacific

Raul Perez

Raul Perez was recognized as the inaugural honoree for the ACRT Pacific Safety Champion Challenge Coin. Late in 2021, Raul Perez agreed to act as the ACRT Pacific Safety Manager for a couple of months. Raul did more than “keep the wheels on” of our safety program. He was trained in the workday immediate notification report and the preliminary investigation report record-keeping process, and he was instrumental in training and onboarding our current Safety Manager, M.K. Youngblood. Perez performed the perfunctory tasks of the position, interfaced with the ACRT safety team, and owned the responsibility of the face of safety for ACRT Pacific. Raul did this while handling his managerial responsibilities overseeing multiple projects and customers.

To this date, Raul is an Emeritus of the ACRT Pacific Safety Committee and periodically covers for Youngblood. Raul embodies our culture of safety and is truly deserving of this distinct honor.

Seth Beam

Seth Beam was recognized at a safety meeting in front of his peers for his efforts in responding to a small brush/grass fire in late fall 2022. Seth, equipped with his fire tools, pulled off the road and began tending to a small fire after he contracted the appropriate Cal Fire Agency. Cal Fire arrived at the scene and in their assessment of the site it was a subterranean hot spot that ignited from a previous ignition. Seth’s efforts directly supported or attributed to the preservation of life and property in a high-fire area in Colfax, Calif.
