Tristan Hoffman, an ACRT Pacific pre-inspection manager, recently received a G.E.M. Award for his “significant performance in safety.” He was nominated by ACRT Pacific Operations Manager Eric Falkenberg.
Falkenberg shared the following message from a utility’s vegetation program manager regarding Hoffman’s actions.
Tristan Hoffman was on a recent response during a storm in fielding a high-profile outage along Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek. Upon his initial assessment of the site, he contacted a [utility] restoration crew in preparation for tree crews to begin work. He was informed that the lines were not grounded but a crew would be arriving to set them for the tree crew. Tristan then noticed a City of Walnut Creek cleanup crew working near the downed powerlines. Tristan approached the crew, and they informed him that they were under the assumption the lines were grounded. Tristan immediately stopped work and informed the crew that the lines were not grounded and that for safety they needed to stay 50 feet away from the downed lines until the grounds were set. His actions helped ensure the safety of the Walnut Creek cleanup crew both then and in the future, should they have to respond to another downed line event.
